What do lollipops, truffles, and the Christian life all have in common? With all of these things it's what's at the center that counts! If you get to the middle of your lollipop or truffle only to discover a rock, you will probably be more than a little disappointed.
What is at the center of your life? If it is anything other than Christ, you are not fulfilling the purpose of your Maker. You're like a lollipop with a rock in the middle. We have been created and designed for a purpose; live up to that purpose by keeping Christ where He belongs -- at the center of your life.
"For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-- all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together" (Colossians 1:16-17).
Some years ago I attended a symphony orchestra playing a 4th of July concert. As the musicians warmed up, each played whatever notes or tunes they wanted. Finally, the concert master stepped to the podium and had them all play the same chord. The concert master then pointed at one instrument or the other and told them they were flat or sharp. After these adjustments they were ready. The concert master sat down and the conductor stepped to the podium and a beautiful piece of music was performed.
When everyone is in tune with God the church produces beautiful music.
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ" (Ephesians 4:15).
“With no visible ears, it might seem that catfish can’t hear well, but that’s not true. A catfish’s body is the same density as water, so it doesn’t need external ears. Sound waves traveling through water go right through a catfish as well. When sound waves hit the fish’s swim bladder, the bladder starts vibrating. This amplifies sound waves, which then travel to small bones (otoliths) in the inner ear. The otoliths start vibrating, too, and as they vibrate, they bend little hairlike projections on the cells beneath them. Nerves in these cells carry a sound message to the brain.”
When Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice. I know them and they follow me” (John 10:27), he wasn’t referring to external ears processing sound waves, but to a deeper spiritual perception. Like the catfish, our spiritual density allows us to hear what our Savior says to us, without the need for ears. His love and grace resonate within us.
